Ricardo Quaresma proud to play for Besiktas

Ricardo Quaresma put in a superb performance as Besiktas defeated Fenerbahce 3-1 at Vodafone Arena.

Besiktas winger Ricardo Quaresma won the man of the match as he scored two goals in the second-half to earn his team a hard-fought win over local rivals Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese winger scored a trademark goal in the 77th minute, using the outside of his foot as he curled the ball past Fenerbahce goalkeeper Carlos Kameni from the corner of the penalty box. The impeccable goal gave the Black Eagles the lead by putting them 2-1 up. In the 90th minute, Quaresma scored again, this time from close range, to make the score 3-1 and put the match to bed as they guaranteed themselves the three points.

After the match, the 34-year-old was interviewed by reporters and spoke briefly about the match;

“This win means three points for us. We deserved it. Now, we will focus and prepare for Thursday. It’ll be an important match for us. This win kept us in the title-race. We knew if we won, we would still have a chance of being champions. “

The fan-favourite continued after being asked on his feelings about the goals he scored;

“The most important thing was the win. I did whatever I could for my team. I’m very proud to play for this amazing club, and to have amazing supporters. I will continue to do the best I can for the club.”

Tonight’s goals were the first time the winger has scored in a derby against Fenerbahce.
