Real Madrid legend Guti joins Besiktas staff

Real Madrid legend Guti joins Besiktas as assistant manager

The Spanish legend will be the assistant manager for the Black Eagles next season.

Besiktas have hired their former player Guti as the club’s assistant manager for the 2018/19 season of the Turkish Super Lig. The former Real Madrid and Spain midfielder will assist Senol Gunes in the dug out.

Prior to accepting his new role, he was a youth coach with Real Madrid’s Under-19 side.

Besiktas president Fikret Orman traveled to Spain last month to speak with the Spanish legend.

Guti finished his playing career at Besiktas – helping them win the Turkish Cup in 2011 – and revealed his return on his Instagram page.

“Today, I want to thank Real Madrid, my home for all the years that I enjoyed as a footballer and a coach,” he wrote alongside a picture of him during his playing days at Besiktas.

“In a few days, I will make Besiktas my new home, where I will be an assistant coach and where I can continue to grow professionally.

“I thank Besiktas for the affection and confidence they have put in me, and I will return that with a lot of work and motivation.”

“My family and I are looking forward to this adventure in Istanbul. Let’s go for it!

“Always Black Eagles.”

The 41-year-old will join his new team in Slovakia this week where they are carrying out their pre-season training.
