Besiktas fall apart as they lose to Genk

Besiktas lose 4-2 to Genk in Europa League

The Black Eagles had no answers for Belgian side Genk in their home encounter during their Europa League meeting on Thursday evening.

Senol Gunes’ men have only themselves to blame as they succumbed to a 4-2 loss against Genk in front of their fans at Vodafone Park on Thursday.

Genk’s Samatta gave the away side the lead in the 23rd minute with a superb volley and doubled the lead in the 70th minute with a technical shot.

Besiktas seemed to find a way back into the game when Vagner Love scored in the 74th minute to make it 2-1. However, the Belgian side managed to make it 3-1 with another counter attack after Ndongala slotted it home past Loris Karius in the 81st minute.

It was Genk who scored, yet again, just two minutes later, in the 83rd minute, this time, through a deflected shot from Piotrowski.

Vagner Love managed to get himself on the score-sheet again in the 86th minute to make it 4-2 with a fine header but it wasn’t enough to get the Black Eagles back into the game at such a late stage in the encounter.

The result leaves Besiktas at the bottom of their group with 3 points. Genk moves into first place with 6 points while Malmoe takes second and Sarspoborg 08 takes 4th.
