Adana Demirspor fail to sign Wesley Sneijder

The ambitious Turkish club playing in the country’s second division attempted to sign Dutch star Wesley Sneijder earlier this month.

Adana Demirspor have failed in their attempt to sign Dutch star Wesley Sneijder, the club’s president Murat Sancak revealed on the club’s official website.

According to Sancak, the Turkish club held talks with the player via a live conference system earlier this month. The talks were “positive” but due to the player’s sponsorship contracts with his current Qatari club, Al-Gharrafa, the transfer failed to materialize.

The wealthy businessman said Sneijder had agreed to join the club but due to the player’s contractual obligations to his sponsors was prohibited from making the move.

If the transfer had taken place, Sneijder would have joined another former big name at the club, Brazilian midfielder Anderson, who is best known for his time with Manchester United.

Adana Demirspor have made several signings this month with the hopes of achieving promotion to the Super Lig next season.
