Bursaspor stadium trashed after lower league playoffs

The club’s stadium suffered extensive damages due to crowd troubles during a lower league promotion play-off.

Turkey’s third tier clash between Sakaryaspor and Fatih Karagumruk on Wednesday for promotion to the Turkish second division left its mark in Bursa but not in a good way. The fans of both clubs let their wild sides bring out the worst in them after they caused extensive damage to Bursaspor’s stadium, where the playoff was hosted.

According to Bursaspor officials, the fans of both teams caused damages estimated to be worth 1.5 million Turkish Lira (TL).

Seats were broken, TV screens in the seats of the VIP section were completely destroyed and majority of the doors to the showers in the change-rooms were unhinged and thrown around.

Doors and windows inside the stadium were smashed to pieces. Toilets and showers suffered heavy damage which caused pipes to break and leak pools of water.

The field was also damaged by disruptive fans. The authentic grass field had many holes created by fans which require the relaying of the grass in order to return it to its original state.
